Why volunteer?

Volunteering in and around your local nature reserve can be highly rewarding. You can meet new people, get fit, gain skills and have a lot of fun.

general contentWherever you live there is a green open space nearby that needs some help. Whether this is through coppicing, scrub clearance, mowing, apple picking or just keeping an eye on the place, all green spaces need support from local people like yourselve.

Many nature reserves run educational activities to raise awareness about the wonderful things they have to offer. These events will also need volunteers to help run, coordinate and advertise the activities.

You can:

  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Get fit, at a pace that suits you (no-one is forced to do more than they want)
  • Gain new skills. This can be from learning how to use hand tools to leading guided walks
  • Make a positive contribution to your local community, whether urban or rural
  • Join a network of like minded people all working towards the same goal
  • Keep active. Lots of people volunteer when they are out of work or retire
  • Have a lot of fun. Come rain or shine volunteers have a smile on their face for all the reasons above...
