Conservation management

The Trust has over 40 years experience in managing our reserves for wildlife

conservation manager in conversation on nature reserveAt HMWT we believe that wildlife is essential to a healthy environment for human beings. Because of this, we work for better protection of our precious wildlife and habitats for future generations. Raising public and government awareness of the issues and threats facing wildlife threats is central to our role.

Through monitoring and collecting data, we demonstrate an accurate picture of habitats and species that need our protection and by working with people from industry, community groups, landowners, local and central government, national agencies, as well as our members and supporters, we aim to achive the best outcomes for wildlife across the two counties.

Keeping our grasslands in good condition is a vital part of our work. Apart from our staff and volunteers, we have a team of hard-working 'nibblers' helping us. Sheep, cows, horses and even water buffalo are all lending a 'hoof' on HMWT nature reserves.
