2009 Volunteer Award Winners

Michael Pearson was honoured for his work as a former Trustee and Volunteer Warden by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (HMWT).

Michael Pearson from Gaddesden was a Trustee for 10 years (until 2008) and Warden of Aldbury Nowers near Tring, until very recently. He continues to play an active role in Hertfordshire Butterfly Conservation, linking the two organisations in their work and carries out regular surveying and butterfly recording activities on a number of other HMWT nature reserves in the local area. He was also instrumental in getting Bunkers Park recognised as a valuable area for wildlife and ensuring that visitors could move easily between it our reserve, Long Deans, in Bunkers Road near Hemel Hempstead.

Hitchin based Val Fullforth has been involved with our North Herts Local Group since its inception 21 years ago.As its ‘Publicity Officer’, she has been putting together inspiring events programmes for the local area – leading walks and encouraging people to get outdoors and enjoy the wildlife around them. She also manned sales tables and attended events to spread the word about the Trust’s work as far as possible.

The work that she and the Group have been doing is vital because it encourages all sorts of people to get out and about – especially those who maybe just don’t know where to begin to look for the wild things on their doorstep.
