The Grove Wildlife Walk and Picnic
About the event
Take a leisurely stroll along the Wildlife Trail with Tim Hill, HMWT’s Conservation Manager. He will guide you through Heath Wood, a woodland which has been here since the 17th century. Enjoy dappled sunlight through the oak, beech and ash trees, alive with the sound of singing birds such as cheerful robins and blackcaps. The trail continues alongside the Grand Union Canal where kingfishers can sometimes be glimpsed hunting for fish. Listen out for the grasshoppers buzzing in the grasslands as you finish the trail in the glade, where a picnic will be prepared for you, and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
About The Grove
The Grove is set in 300 acres of Hertfordshire parkland, dating back to the 13th century, with surrounding lakes and woodland. The 18th century mansion was the former home of the Earls of Clarendon.
The gardens draw heavily on the existing features of each site, whether historically, ecologically, visually or environmentally and the Formal Gardens which run the entire length of the hotel provide a link between the interior and the wider landscape and the 18 hole Championship Golf Course.
Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust are proud to be working with The Grove as one of their Gold corporate partners to provide a wildlife management plan that encourages a diversity of wildlife thriving within the garden area, across the golf course and into the wilder outer edges of the estate.
Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting the work of Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
