Volunteer Treasurer, Mid-Herts Local Group
The Trust’s Mid-Herts Local Group organises a programme of winter talks and guided walks, locally and further afield. The group is led by a Committee of Trust members and volunteers.
Our Mid-Herts Local Group is looking for a new Volunteer Treasurer to join the Committee and manage the Group’s finances and reporting to the Trust.
Largely home-based; Committee meetings and winter talks programme held in Welwyn/Hatfield area.
- Attend Committee meetings (at least three per year) to report on Group finances
- Ensure Group finances are properly managed and maintain accurate records of all transactions (including retaining receipts)
- Ensure a bank account is maintained in the name of the Group, with appropriate dual sign off
- Prepare accounts and Annual Return for submission to Trust for inclusion in the audit process
- Present accounts to Group’s AGM
- Attend and support regular Group events including the winter talks programme
Skills and experience you will need:
- Relevant experience to deliver the role of Treasurer for the Group, including managing financial records and financial reporting.
- Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
- Willingness to work as part of a team
- Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Fundraising, Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection.

Volunteer training and support
- Relevant induction training covering an introduction to the work of the Trust and information on our policies and procedures.
- Mentoring with an experienced staff member or volunteer to guide and review your activities.
- Training on Trust finance and other relevant procedures.
- Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed with prior arrangement.
Anticipated time commitment
- Varied and flexible, depending on time available but we suggest 1-2 days/month to include attending meetings and deliver the role of Treasurer.
- Committee meetings and winter talk programme take place in the evening. Majority of walks events take place during the day.
- Once nominated and voted in at the Group’s AGM, the role is expected to last for one year and eligible for re-election at each AGM.
