In June 2010 Stevenage Borough Council launched their Biodiversity Action Plan. Part of this plan aims to encourage local people to get closer to local wildlife. The Wild Stevenage project was born! The project kicked off in April 2011 and is run by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and the Council.
What will the project do?
- Produce nature trails and leaflets for Monk's and Whomerley Woods and Shackledell Grassland.
- Carry out habitat improvement works in Monk's and Whomerley Woods and Shackledell Grassland.
- Put on open days, guided walks and family activities within Stevenage Wildlife Sites.
- Encourage local residents to volunteer on their local wildlife site. This could range from practical conservation tasks to helping out at events or even giving talks to local groups.
- Raise awareness about great green bush crickets and swifts in the town.
Take a walk and discover wildlife in Stevenage.
