Inspire your pupils to get close to nature and respect their natural environment

We have a commitment to the education of our local community, as well as to wildlife conservation, and would welcome the opportunity to work with young people as well as adults. We can provide them with the experience and help that they might need to continue and develop their interest in local wildlife.

Your school could help protect our natural environment in Herts and Middlesex by:

  • Joining the Wildlife Trust as a School Watch Member
  • Making Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust your 'Chosen Charity'
  • Fundraising for us

You might also be interested in our fantastic 'Discover and Learn' resource, packed full of activities for primary school age children – and great for teachers, home-schooling parents or leaders of cub scouts and brownies too!

The pack is divided into two sets of activities – one focused around woodlands and the other wetlands – designed to complement the National Curriculum. These can be downloaded for free online from our Discover and Learn webpage or contact us at to request a hard copy.

School Watch Membership

We would love the opportunity to build a relationship with all local schools and provide the teachers and children the experience and help that they need to continue and develop the children's interest in local wildlife.

The best way we can work with schools is through our special School Watch Membership. This will provide the school with a library of support and educational lesson plans - helping to utilise the outdoor classroom; developing the pupils' observational skills and inspire their interest in the natural world. It could even contribute towards the 'Eco-School' status, showing their commitment to the environment and local wildlife.

School Watch Members will receive the following publications full of interesting articles for you to learn more about your local wildlife, all sent four times a year to coincide with the seasons:

  • Wildlife WATCH magazines - children's wildlife magazine, full of interesting articles, games and competitions;
  • Link magazine - teacher's support magazine, aimed at teachers and club leaders, with fun and educational games, lesson plans and activities to explore the outdoor classroom;
  • WATCH website - access to the member-only part of the website designed to accompany the series of magazines, filled with fun and educational games and activities, numerous activity sheets and resources for both use indoors and outdoors, as well as other valuable resources for you and your pupils to download and benefit from;
  • Wildlife Matters -  Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust membership magazine, to keep you updated with all of our important conservation work, on a local and national level;
  • Go Wild - our local events calendar, full of ideas and activities for you to get involved in and get the chance to see your local wildlife up close;
  • Nature Reserves Guide - our guide to your local nature reserves with top tips of when to visit and what to look out for, as well as directions of how to get to each site.
