Help is available from a variety of sources. You could check out the websites of the following organisations:
RSPB Planning for Nature Toolkit. This is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to engage with the planning system.
These organisations may also have specific advice on different habitats and species, although the list is not exhaustive.
Amphibian and Reptile Conservation
Planning Aid England is an independent charity which offers planning advice and support to individuals and communities. It is run by volunteers who are professional planners.
