Tring Reserviors Winter Wildfowl Walk
Tring Reservoirs,
3km north west of Tring, Tring, Hertfordshire , HP23 4PA
About the event
Winter is a wonderful time to discover the wildlife at the reservoirs, as a variety of wildfowl gather on the water, alongside wading birds, gulls and other wetland species. With the help of our Reserves Officer, we'll explore the paths around the reservoirs, using binoculars and a telescope to observe the birds and learn how to identify the different species. You will find out more about the conservation and management work carried out by the Trust. As well as learning about the bird-ringing undertaken at the site to help understand and monitor bird populations.
Whether you're new to birdwatching or already enjoy spotting wildlife, this walk offers a great opportunity to develop your bird identification skills, discover more about our winter visitors and learn about the conservation work taking place at Marsworth Reservoir.
Suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The walk is weather dependent and may need to be cancelled at short notice if conditions are unsuitable
Please consider the distance and walking conditions when deciding whether the event is suitable for you.
There are very steep steps from the car park to the top of the reservoir banks.
The walk will cover approximately 3 miles, following paths around the edges of the reservoirs.
There is a good gravel path between the two reservoirs and along the canal. However, the route around Startop's End Reservoir follows a grassy earth bund, which can be wet and muddy, particularly during winter.
The route can be exposed to cold winds, so warm clothing is essential.
Please bring binoculars and/or a birdwatching telescope, if you have them.
Feel free to bring a snack and a drink to enjoy along the way.
