Chess Valley Challenge
After the success of our mass participation walk on Sunday 27th September, where over 80 walkers took on the challenge, we are delighted to announce we are extending the challenge to take anytime in October 2020!
Challenge yourself, friends and family to walk the 10 mile Chess Valley Way and raise funds for the Trust on this sponsored walking event. This lovely self-guided walk between Rickmansworth to Chesham is an ideal way of exploring the beautiful Chess Valley. Bring a picnic and plan a day out with family or friends. The walk is well signposted and it will be easy to maintain social distancing at all times.
The first annual Chess Valley Challenge took place in 2019 with over 50 participants walking the 10 miles between Rickmansworth and Chesham. Last year's event raised over £3,000 to help protect wildlife in Hertfordshire and Middlesex - a brilliant effort by all involved.
As a thank you for fundraising for the Trust, participants will receive a branded reusable metal water bottle on completion of the walk.
We will provide you with a well-marked map and the whole route is clearly marked. Many of the paths are wide and there are plenty of spaces to pass other walkers to maintain a suitable distance.
The walk was amazing - beautiful scenery and we were lucky with the weather too. We would definitely be up for it again next year!2019 Chess Valley Challenge
About the challenge
Challenge yourself, friends and family to walk the 10 mile Chess Valley Way and raise funds for the Trust on this sponsored walking event. This event, kindly sponsored by Affinity Water, is a great way to see the beautiful Chess valley while supporting local wildlife.
Discover the beautiful River Chess, walk through our stunning Frogmore Meadows Nature Reserve, explore lovely old villages and country pubs. The walk passes through the beautiful scenery of the Chess Valley and several attractive villages and at times gets close to the clear sparkling waters of the River Chess, one of the Chilterns' famed chalk streams.
As a thank you for fundraising for the Trust, participants will receive a branded reusable water bottle.
The route is a 10 mile linear walk starting, or finishing at either end between Rickmansworth and Chesham. You can opt for a shorter walk by taking a detour off the main route to either Chorleywood station (approx 4.5 miles from Rickmansworth) or Chalfont & Latimer station (approx 7 miles from Rickmansworth) making this Challenge walk suitable for all the family. Have a look at our interactive route map here.

We will email your registration pack shortly after registering, including details of the walk, where to stop for breaks, alternative shorter routes and how to start your fundraising!
This is a self-guided walk. Please follow the signs and keep to the footpaths at all times.
