Introduction to Beekeeping Workshop
About the event
An introduction to beekeeping with Hannah Reeves, professional beekeeper, who manages the apiary at Tewin Orchard Nature Reserve.
This one day workshop will give you an overview of the craft of beekeeping. The 5 hour course will begin by spending the morning in local pub the Rose and Crown, learning the basic theory of beekeeping, looking at the equipment and discussing the role of the beekeeper.
After a delicious pub lunch, the afternoon will be spent in the orchard's apiary with a session of practical beekeeping.
This course will provide a basis of understanding of what is involved in becoming a beekeeper and whether this is a hobby you wish to pursue. Protective beekeeping suits and gloves will be provided.
Suitable for beginners - adults only
About your tutor:
Hannah Reeves first gained an interest in bees when working as a field assistant at Rothamsted Research. She then went to collect her first swarm and start keeping her own bees. Her university dissertation was on a comparison between urban and rural beekeeping. She currently works full-time as a beekeeper, having completed a three year bee farming apprenticeship with the Bee Farmer’s Association.
Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting the work of Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
