About the event

Take part in our second sponsored 10 mile walk through the Chess Valley, from Rickmansworth to Chesham. Discover the beautiful River Chess, walk through our stunning Frogmore Meadows Nature Reserve, explore lovely old villages and country pubs.

We are super excited to be able to offer an outdoors walking experience which is safe for families and small groups of friends to enjoy.  This self-lead walk is along mostly wide footpaths with many passing places.  Walkers can depart any time between 9am and 11am to allow for staggered start times.  Bring a picnic and enjoy it at our Frogmore Meadows Nature Reserve, located half-way along the route!

You can opt for a shorter walk by stopping off at either Chorleywood station (approx 5 miles) or Chalfont & Latimer station (approx 7 miles) making this Challenge walk suitable for all the family.  Return to Rickmansworth from Chesham is a short ride on the Metropolitan Line.  Chesham is the end of the line so trains are not busy and they run every half an hour.

As a thank you for fundraising for the Trust, each participant will be given a branded reusable water bottle and goodie pack.

Feedback from the 2020 Chess Valley Challenge

Think it was lovely HMWT staff were able to put on the event at all this year, given the pandemic. Well done to all involved. It was such a positive day and we were so happy the event was able to go ahead - given a few changes to allow for current circumstances.

Brilliant, thankyou. Wonderful effort by everyone involved in organising and marshaling. I hope you raised lots of money. Wonderful to share such a beautiful place with people.

A lovely walk and day. Well organised. Great goody bags.

Additional Information

This is a self-guided walk.  Please follow the signs and keep to the footpaths at all times.  Participants will be responsible for the own well-being and are recommended to bring a first aid kit, plenty of water and refreshments.  There are pubs and cafes near the route but additional toilet provisions are not available.

Dogs are very welcome on leads.

Return from Chesham to Rickmansworth by train is at the participant's cost (approx £1.60 per person).

There is no minimum sponsorship requirement. We would suggest a target of £50, but please raise as much as you can for the Trust! It's easy to get started, simply  create your JustGiving page using the link below.
