Walk the beautiful stretch of towpath between Ware and Hertford to discover a series of stunning, newly decorated benches. Designed by incredible local artists, these functional works of art turn a simple sit-down into an immersive art experience.

Grab your walking shoes, bring the family, and come support local art in the great outdoors. See you on the towpath! The trail is officially being opened at 10:30am and along the trail you can meet the artists and find out about their design concepts, and also enjoy a live Q&A session with each along the walk.

The walk will be about 2.5 miles and will start at Amwell End next to the Canal & River Trust Visitor Centre (What3Words ref - Backed.Rider.Cotton). The walk will then follow along the river towpath toward Hertford and finish just after the Old Barge pub (What3Words ref intelligible.beam.grant ) on the decking area at Little Hartham. Here there will be a gazebo, with Herts East Council volunteers manning the area and handing out light refreshments.

Herts Rivers Week 2026 is a county-wide celebration of our chalk rivers through events and activities for all ages. It is also a call to action designed to help people understand the value of chalk rivers - and the role we all play in protecting them.
