Viewers of the St Albans Cathedral Peregrine webcam were treated to an exciting spectacle over the Easter weekend, as three eggs were laid in the nesting site high above the city.
The first egg appeared just after midnight on 1 April. A second followed on the morning of Good Friday, 3 April, before the female laid a third egg shortly after midnight on Easter Monday.
Lea Ellis, Engagement Manager at Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, said:
“The Peregrines have provided us with some joyful moments over the weekend. We can now expect to see more activity on the webcam, as incubation typically begins once the third egg is laid.
“The female will do most of the sitting, but the male plays an important role too—taking turns on the nest and bringing in food. While there may be times when the eggs are unattended, the pair will remain close by, guarding the nest.
“All being well, we can expect the chicks to hatch in around a month’s time.”
