About the event

As light begins to fade at this time of year, the open water attracts thousands and thousands of gulls of different species - this is your chance to see the spectacle in action in a private nature reserve.

Join our People and Wildlife Officer Josh and local experts to learn why they come here and how to tell which gull is which (they are not all 'seagulls'!) The event will include a tour of part of the reserve, before we settle down to watch the spectacle with a cup of hot chocolate. Bring binoculars or a field telescope if you have them, and Josh will also have a telescope you can make use of. We’ll also look for other wetland birds over the water.

 Good to know:

  • Please be aware you will need to ascend and descend a flight of approx. 100 steps up the dam wall - there is a handrail.
  • Wrap up warm and windproof and wear sturdy footwear - wellies and thick socks are recommended.
  • If you'd like to sit down whilst watching the gulls, consider bringing a camping chair or a small, insulated mat. An old cushion in a shopping bag works well!  Please be aware you will need to carry this for the walk through the reserve.
  • The ground may be muddy and uneven in places.
  • No dogs will be allowed at this event, sorry
