River Chess Nutrient Survey Day
About the event
**Please be aware this is a third party event and is being run and managed by the Chilterns Chalk Stream Project, not the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Please check the Chilterns Chalk Stream Project website for the most up to date information**
Free event to have a go at water sampling, contribute to vital citizen science, and learn about the Chess – a beautiful chalk stream!
This is not only a fun day out on the incredible River Chess, it is a chance to contribute to citizen science data that we use to protect and restore the incredibly rare chalk stream habitat. We are investigating phosphate levels within the river, as excessive nutrients can cause problems for river health. Please come along if you would like to spend a day along the river, have a go at collecting water samples and chat about chalk streams. No experience is needed but enthusiasm is very welcome!
Prebooking is required. Find out more and book your spot at https://www.chilternstreams.org/events/river-chess-nutrient-survey-day/
Herts Rivers Week 2026 is a county-wide celebration of our chalk rivers through events and activities for all ages. It is also a call to action designed to help people understand the value of chalk rivers - and the role we all play in protecting them.
