Commitment:
Any DayHerts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a leading voice for wildlife conservation across Hertfordshire and Middlesex. As a charity, we rely heavily on volunteers to help support and deliver our busy programme of events and engagement.
We want to reach as many audiences and communities as possible, and this is only possible with the help of our amazing volunteers leading and assisting with our events. You could lead children/family activities at community events, provide support for our larger scale events such as Wildfest, lead with creative nature based activities or help at guided walks through our nature reserves.

The role:
Working alongside Wilder Community Officers and lead volunteers to deliver events and activities.
Leading and assisting with guided walks
Lead and assist staff and volunteers to visit various organisations to assist them in their site biodiversity- showing them how to make improvements for wildlife and people
Awareness that not everyone has easy access to nature and supporting the Trust to enable and empower traditionally and culturally isolated communities
Enabling communities to take action for wildlife and understand its importance in all our lives.
Role location:
Flexible depending on volunteer location and willingness to travel. Currently Watford is a priority for us.
Role responsibilities:
Act as an ambassador for Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust
Enthuse a new generation about wildlife
Awareness that not everyone has easy access to nature and supporting the Trust to enable and empower traditionally and culturally isolated communities
Create new links with people with limited access to/awareness of wildlife
Promote active involvement from all, no matter how small the action
Support the Trust in working towards targets of engaging another 1 in 4 people in acting positively for wildlife
Skills and experience you will need:
Confident in working with the general public including families, children and young people
Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public
Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
Willingness to work as part of a team and attend relevant meetings if possible
Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
Willingness to apply for an Enhanced DBS Certificate.

Volunteer training and support
- Induction training covering an introduction to the work of the Trust and information on our policies and procedures.
- In person training on how to lead and assist events.
- Mentoring with an experienced staff member to guide and review your activities
- Health & Safety training
- Training on First Aid will be available.
- Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed with prior arrangement
- Branded clothing for use at Trust events
Anticipated time commitment:
- Very flexible – time commitment to suit volunteer
- Support for engagement work will take priority but there may be an opportunity to get involved in other Trust activities
