We work hard to help our local dragonflies – but we need your support to do more…
Dragonfly populations are growing, fast. Thanks to our management and creation of wetland habitats, improved water quality and the changing climate, our local dragonfly populations are flourishing. But with over half of UK dragonfly species being found in Herts and Middlesex, it is now more important than ever to protect the habitats that our local dragonflies need to survive. Today we ask you to help us protect this growing population.
Dragonflies have a fascinating lifecycle. Starting life living underwater as a nymph, they eventually emerge as the beautifully coloured aerial acrobats you see darting around your local ponds, lakes and rivers. With such complex needs, your local dragonflies require a variety of different habitats to survive at each life stage. But now, the pressure is on us to create enough suitable habitats to support these beautiful insects and ensure their complex needs are met. With your help, we can protect and improve our wetlands across Hertfordshire and Middlesex.
A gift from you today will help us manage and create suitable habitats at your local nature reserves, so our amazing dragonflies can thrive here. Thank you.
Discovering your local dragonflies
Now that summer is here, it’s the perfect time to head outside and spot your local dragonflies in action. Download one of our dragonfly spotter sheets or buy one of our FSC guides to dragonflies and damselflies of Britain and see how many species you can find.
